Yesterday I heard a noise I could only describe as a bird flying into my patio window I was right and the poor thing lay on the ground - its beak was opening and shutting so wasnt dead I picked it up carefully and it seemed a bit stunned Took it to the animal wildlife hospital I have a CD of bird song to play, in the car, to keep it from stressing too much - I've done this before This morning they 'phoned to say could I pick her up as she was fine and was raring to go So did just that and here she is - back home

Oh Jenny, that's such good news - well done you. A young thrush flew into our french windows the other day. It made such a crash I could hear it right over the other side of the house. It didn't survive. Poor little thing. I can't normally deal with birds but I had to pick it up and find it a little resting spot. I'm so glad your little bird had a story with happy ending. This got me wondering though...do they simply not see the window, or can they see light (another window at the end) so they think they can just carry on or is it something to do with reflections muddling them up? I don't know how well birds can see, except for birds of prey which have very good eyesight. I'm keeping one lot of curtains closed for now as this is the second time it has happened. Sorry to hijack your happy thread with gloom Jenny.

My patio window isnt all that bright so they wouldnt think it was something they could fly thru - most odd - they dont bump into the other windows of the house but then they have that elizabethan leaded look ie diamond panes
It happened last year but the birdy broke its neck <sob>
