It's the official start of the season for English asparagus today It's the only time we eat it so I do tend to indulge whilst it is around, delicious. So, how do you cook yours? Ours - steamed, with a little melted butter, hollandaise sauce or a poached egg. Or wrapped in Parma ham with some cream over, black pepper and some parmesan shavings, bake in oven..........

Hi BM I saw on the breakfast news this morning that it was the official start of the season for asparagus, I was surprised to learn that it only lasts 6 weeks. Dont eat it much although I probably will try some, I could steam it in my pressure cooker.

I love asparagus, the pub down the road is prolly doing its usual cheese and Aspargus tart. I always buy the cream of apargus cup-a-soups too I dont cook it much as its a bit pricey and Sean can take it of leave it but If I see it going cheap, I buy it and steam it.

I would love to grow it but it seems a specialist job!! did you see Tony Buckland on G.W. this week he planted some by making a idge all along the length of the trench and gently spreading the roots out like an octopus. Stillthere are only the two of us and I dont mind bying it now and again when M&S have it in, I just put it in the top tier of my steamer and melt butter on it when I put it on the plate.

Its seems like a sound investment (to grow) but i've neither the space or the patience.

We have a rack of ribs (only small) left from last night - hubby treated me to a meal out - ribs from Costco hot counter and we ate them in the car (there are 2 in the pack and very nice they are too!).

We use our ordinary steamer but wrap the tips in tin foil. (Another purchase I talked myself out of - and my MIL used to have a kitchen shop!)

Sometimes in Resaturants the stems are quite tough and the tips tender - I think there must be an art in cooking them or get the right sort of asparagus I think they should be eaten on their own and not with food ie chicken or beef as you wont be able to to savour their special flavour Didnt know it took so long to grow
