Watching the last fifteen minutes of GW on Friday, I could hear the cat flap going. I looked out the door and Poppy was on the mat, I opened the door and she rushed in with something small & furry in her mouth, straight through to the lounge. It was sat under the settee. I went to get something to put it in but didn't shut the doors, returning to see tail of said furry thing disappearing around the door, followed by Poppy, followed by me - it was like a Tom & Jerry cartoon. I gave up at nearly 11pm trying to catch it and shut it in the study where it had taken refuge. I couldn't find it the next morning, but hubby and I went to look for it later and it was in the middle of the floor, dehydrated and not very well - it was a baby rat! We put it outside with some food and water but sadly it didn't make it. The little minx now thinks she is very clever and a good hunter! The squirrel and birds weren't put off this morning by her though!

I had a mummy rat in my garden - she lived under my summer house - I cudnt bring myself to kill her
Sadly next door didnt have the same opinion and didnt even tell me they had put poison out - what if my dogs had eaten them
I had the dreadful shock of finding bloated dead babies in my plant pot - they had drowned

We are the same jennywren.
We had some a few years ago now and we saw them but they didn't bother us so we left them. Our neighbour called in the environmental health because they were in his garden and at the time they had 2 young children. The chap looked into another neighbour's garden and there were black bags full of rubbish piled up and ripped - even children's nappies! He was told to remove the rubbish and the rats would go - they were just looking for an easy meal. Why didn't he put his bin bags out for collection ?
