Something had been digging holes beside my trees, right down to the roots,we have foxes come into the garden, but they never dig. When i fill them in,the next night they dig them out again. Well about 3am this morning,we were woken by a squealy, squeaky sound, when we looked out of the window, there was the culprit,a badger, We have lived here for 36 yrs ,and never seen one before, its quite built up here,i wonder where it came from,do they travel far?

Not sure how far they travel FB, I'll ask hubby when he comes back at the weekend as he went to a talk on them last week, he will probably be after earthworms, and they are creatures of habit so will come back and dig again. It could be that it is a male and he has left the main sett and started his own which is nearer to you and that is why you are seeing him for the first time. They have their setts where they are undisturbed, possibly a garden that has been left to grow very wild, wasteland, railway sidings, but will urban forage likes foxes, it's an easy meal for them. He knows what a good gardener you are FB and will have plenty of earthworms in the soil for him ;D I would love to have one visit our garden - we saw one a couple of weeks ago round the corner, he crossed the road in front of us to our surprise, didn't know they were there.

I'm glad for your sake that he's found somewhere else FB. Was'nt he thoughtful digging where it is out of sight and not ruining your lovely lawn.
