My neighbors have asked me if you lot can give any advice on their droopy monkey puzzle tree. they've had it in the front garden for about 7 years, its about 5 ft high it looks healthy but the ends of the branches are drooping they have been asked to look for red spider mite (by the local GC) but can see no signs. any ideas?

I really have no idea Emsey--but I did plant one in my front garden about 7ft away from the house about 10 years ago (I have moved since then) but when I pass now I think to myself it was the wrong place to put one--because it has grown up to 12ft- and still growing!! and seems to be dominating the house-keeping it quite dark! Did you neighbour plant the Tree or was it there when they moved in? I agree that they look lovely when small but very ungainly when grown--

They planted it Biggs, I was shocked when they told me it was a monkey puzzle tree today, i thought it was a fern of some kind, I wouldn't have planted one slap bang in the middle of thier already raised front lawn! They said they'd be dead before it got to the stage where it blocks out light! They said it in jest.

My Mom always said its bad luck to 'scare the monkeys' when I was a kid, has anybody else heard of this? ;D Next door will have a dark sitting room a few yeard from now, they have a fern nearer to the house too.
