This Camellia has done this for every year since we moved here despite me replacing the top 6" of soil I wonder if anyone has any idea what could be wrong? you dont expect to have to water much in the colder months but I have done a bit! it is on a west facing fence I dont think its the morning sun!!

Hi Maggy, although you have replaced some of the soil it might not be enough, the roots might be in soil that's not good for it, our two camelias are both in pots in only ericaceous compost. Only guessing though. The leaves look healthy, not like one of ours.

Thats why Im confused the leaves would be all yellow and sad looking! its too big to dig out and replace all the soil I can water with more mira acid though I might just try that although it has been fed with Rhodedendron feed!

We could help you dig it out and put it in a large pot if you wanted to. Weve just repotted our big camelia and wont be putting it in another pot, its too big, we will just have to keep cutting it back if it grows too big.

It could be that the flowers are getting frosted Maggy. If there has been a frost and the early morning sun shines on the still frozen flowers they go brown. Camellias do like sunshine but should not get any until any frost has gone.

There's a little article on camellias in this months GW Maggy and it suggests covering them in fleece on nights when low temperatures are forecast. It suggests holding the fleece in place with pegs. Not sure if I would remember to do it and if it was a bit windy the fleece could be off.

Sorry I don't know much about Camelias Maggy to be of any help. I was going to mention the morning sun too. Is this the right place to mention my one and only Petunia, which was thriving in a pot indoors until a few days ago? I put it in a hanging basket outside with a Fuchsia and a Begonia Semperflorens. The latter two are fine but the Petunia looks as if it's lost the will to live, and is getting white patches all over it. Its hanging bits got bent so I removed those but I doubt if it's anything to do with that. The only thing I can think of is that it's still too cold for it to be out all day and night. I've started bringing the basket in at night. The poor Petunia looks very dejected atm - any suggestion? Thanks!

I think you put it outside too soon Mrs B the white patches could be the air frost!! Id stand it on a bucket indoors till it recovers.

Mrs Beige and Maggie I'm sorry I don't know anything about either petunia or camellia. I got 3 small Sarcococca which all had flowers on them and smelled devine but they've started to die now. Some of the branches have just withered, the leaves have fallen off and they look generally very sick. Today I've repotted them into fresh clean compost and popped them on the windowledge for a bit of protection. I was never happy with them as I said when I bought them by mail from J. Parker. Never again. Anyone know if there's anything else I should do?
