Well I think we may have done it to death now and we should be concentrating on getting hanging baskets ready for the next one and our/your (as I wont be here ) borders sorted as I cant think what will be ready in May that hasnt been done! can you of course any suggestions will always be considered. Maggy, knowing emsey she probably has something up her sleeve (apart from her arm!) to keep us on our toes! I'm still trying to get a good photo of my tulips! I twigged last night that by the time I get home they have closed up as they are out of the sun - I've been watching them since Sunday as they were beginning to open out nicely then!

Thank you Biggles and LG. I can't take any credit for the colour combination - it was one recommended by Sarah Raven but I got the bulbs from Crocus because they were cheaper from them!

Thay are lovely Jasmine, I would like the names too please, many thanks. This is the first year we have grown more than a couple of tulips and I have really fallen in love with them! My memory of tulips as a child is the flowers falling over and not lasting long - seems that doesn't happen nowadays.

Here are mine... The tall dark tulips are Havran, the orangey/pinky/purple tulips are Prinses Irene and and the deep pink tulips are Couleur Cardinal. Another combination that Sarah Raven suggested was Doll's Minuet and Ballerina - bright pink and orange - it looked stunning but I couldn't get both bulbs from one supplier and I wasn't paying 2 lots of postage!

You're right Maggy - they would look quite ordinary on their own. Petal - I cheated a bit using an idea that was in a Sarah Raven article in one of the gardening supplements with the w/e papers!

Talking of SArah Raven have you seen the progs on Sissinghurst? they seem to be on most days she and her husband are living in the lodge apparently! as resident caretakers of the estate it used to belong to her husbands Grandmother! it now belongs to N.T.

I didn't know that. Sissinghurst is just up the road from us, we often visit in the summer. I have a sour grape penstemon in my garden that was grown from a cutting that dropped into my bag while I was walking through the garden!
