I have got lots of David Austen roses in the garden and each year they start off with lovely green leaves. Later on in the season they all get blackspot. I clear all the fallen leaves throughout winter and mulch and feed in spring and feed again in June but this seems to help for a bit and then the black spot appears later on in summer. Has anyone tried Uncle Tom's Rose Tonic? I was reading about it and have googled it but it is quite expensive. If it is a solution to the black spot problem though it would be worth every penny.

Sorry I've never tried it. My rose bushes are only babies really and I've never had black spot. Have a look at this. www.greencure.net/rose_black_spot.asp Not sure where you get green cure from, but it does say once you have blackspot its there for good but the plants can live with it.

If I remember Black Spot was rife last year - all my roses had it but they survived just the leaves drop off BUT my Arthur Bell didnt get any at all He never gets anything - he is perhaps one of the most hardy roses of them all

Just had a look at the Greencure website. I thought the tip about not watering roses in the evening as damp leaves left overnight are an ideal breeding ground for black spot was interesting. I'll try anything! Not sure where you can get Greencure from in this country though - tried googling it but got lots of US forums even though I said UK only. Will keep looking.

I use "Rose Clear-Systemic"--This works through the plants system--and prevents the Blackspot returning- Pest control: Rose Clear 3 100ml Rose Clear · Systemic fungicide with insecticide for roses and other flowering and ornamental plants.· Kills greenfly, blackfly and controls powdery mildew, rust, blackspot, etc.·

Thanks Biggles, I use that too and find it really useful until about the end of the summer when the blackspot takes over again. I quite liked the idea of the Greencure as it sounds like you mix it in a watering can and then pour it over your roses. Those trigger bottles are quite hard on your hands if you've got a lot of spraying to do. Still, its not good hankering after something we can't buy here.
