That happens to me too BM. Even really reliable things that everyone sows direct can fail miserably for me.

Does anyone know why the stem on my BIGGEST sunflower should have split near the bottom?? its about 2" long!! the plant is about 15" I hope it can survive I promised tulip the other one these two are the best for some reason I hope since Ive repotted them the others can catch up!!

Sorry Maggie I've no idea, perhaps it was nicked and the cut is spreading as it gets bigger, kind of like a scar does in a person. You could try putting paper tape around it, I've done that with tomatoes and it can stop it getting worse and keep infection out.

Maggy I think they will be sowing them out doors on GW tonight, so as long as you harden them off I think they'd be fine.

I agree with Em Maggie, harden them off for a couple of days they should be fine. It gets to the stage where you just need the room does'nt it.

Ive been leaving the G.H. door open for the last couple of days Ill stand thm out now and plant at the week-end thanks.

Mine have now come through (as usual late with the planting inside), anyway, I've sown 3 different varieties - Russian Giant, Giant Single and Velvet Queen. Two of the Russian Giant are totally different from each other - the one has bright green leaves and the other has dark leaves with dark stripes on This will be a trial within a trial!

Ive put my first one in to-day I tried to dig a deep hole in a sunny position but couldnt get down very far before hitting concrete! I managed to put some G.C. in and a bit of B.F.B. I hope it doesnt get windy Ive tied it up on a cane so fingers crossed.
