I'm growing Vanilla Ice and Black Magic this year. I potted them on today as they were started off 2 to a little fibre pot and they had outgrown those. They are out in the lobby now getting used to a slightly cooler temperature.

Em, I've joined 2 campaigns, 1 run by Blue Peter, be good to bees something called breathing places. There was a week in march which was called National Science and Engineering week. The idea here is to help save the UK bees by planting bee friendly plants, giving bees more food and making them healthier. The other is www.saveourbees.org.uk Both these folks sent out seeds, not full packets but a few in a small pk. I got sunflowers and wild flowers.

Thank you Jasmine and Tulip, I'm glad you like them. I've been growing them for a number of years. They don't grow as tall as some of the yellow ones, only about 5-6 feet.

From this I guess sunflowers don't go out til the risk of frost has passed. I was wondering as I could really do with some space in the lobby for other seedlings and the sunflowers are too tall now for the mini greenhouse.

Jasmine you could harden them off and take a chance if you're putting them somewhere sheltered. They can actually be sown outside anytime now anyhow.

I have finally sown mine, yesterday - Russian Giant, Velvet Queen and Giant Single - all in pots in teh conservatory at the moment! I put some directly outside last year as well but they never appeared - there's a surprise! It's usual for seeds in our garden.
