Just wondered if anyone was growing peas this year. Yesterday I sowed half a packet of Kelvedon Wonder left over from last year. I've no real room for them so have sowed them by the wall at the back of the borders,( Geoff Hamilton style) they can climb up either the trellace with the sp or I can put some sticks for them. I intend to sow a packet of Hurst Greenshaft in 2 lots in a few weeks time.

They should germinate in about 2 weeks if not before, i sow a few at a time normally 10 day intervals then you dont get them all at once. I planted some in Feb, they are through now so i sowed some more last weekend. Have fun Karen

Hi LG Ive sown mine in pots at home in a cold Greenhouse, last year i did both direct and in pots, they all did well. If a frost was due i covered them over with fleece, i did lose a few at the lottie but that was due to mice and birds, i just replaced them with new seeds and netted them over. Ive just planted mine out at the lottie i will take some pics and post them.

Glad to hear they do well both ways Karenwl. I saw yesterday that my Kelvedon wonder peas have germinated at the back of the flower borders, I'd no room anywhere else for them and am determined to grow them. I must try to get another lot sown this coming week it'll be Hurst Greenshaft next time.

They're smashing FB you and Mrs FB are surely in for a treat this year. Well done. I'm afraid mine are not great as they're stuck at the back of the border, I'd forgotten how much was going to grow in front of them. I did get a few Hurst Greenshaft stuck in in a spare spot which seem to be doing better.

Well the few Hurst greenshaft that I sowed in the bottom border are doing great. I'm afraid the others bit the dust. I'm really pleased to see them covered in flowers. I sowed the remainder of the packet a couple of weeks ago, (no sense leaving them until next year and I now have room). They're poking their heads up now too. Seems I will have peas this year if the birds don't get them. How did everyone else do.

Well I've had my first portion of Hurst Greenshaft, 9 peas in each pod, delicious with some butter and mint. My Daughter Jenny and family are coming later today so my Grandchildren will be able to sample them. I'm looking forward to sharing with them. They're cropping really well, lots to pick. I won't buy any other type again.
