FB--Do we get them from growing from Seed? When would you sow? or can you buy them from GC as Plug Plants? Now if Maggs and I can get hold of one then we can compare with you as to how we grow them-- I can 'see' you grinning--and shaking your head--I am serious ;D

I was wondering though are the flowers toxic to animals I have a dog that likes to taste everything he sees laying about so I have to be one step ahead of him all the time. :

The first time I've ever seen a Brug was FB's magnificant ones. One day when I'm a bit more experienced and global warming has reached Belfast, I will grow one. Look forward to seeing some great pics later in the year.

Dont tell anyone will you FB that you gave me some Brugs and I killed them What do you think you did wrong? Jen! the only thing that is worrying me about having one is overwintering it as they are so big, I have a Hedychium (ginger plant) ive had it for about 4 years and it hasnt flowered for me yet, its in a pot so I can bring it into the conservatory I tried putting it in the cold greenhouse last year and it died right down ! I left it at the back of the garden and it started to shoot again so this year I brought it inside, I only have a small conservatory and there is also a lemon tree in there so they will be no room for a Brug;

What happened Maggy,was that she left them out when there was an unexpected early frost in OCT or Nov,they were cuttings that i had taken in the summer,so were only babies,mature Brugs will stand a slight frost,

They either go in the porch or the GH, Maggy, they die back but shoot again from the base, some people cut them back and keep them indoors, or in the conservatory, but they are tougher than they look, honestly. Interesting factoid They were used as a kind of drug by Victorian ladies, dont know how, but it was something to do with the flower.

My Daughter rang me earlier she had called at the garden centre on the way home from here! she said she intended getting me one for Mothers DAy they didnt have any and said I probably wouldnt find one in our area because they wil only happily grow down South. He had checked to see if they were getting any in but said not! I suppose if they sold them and people lost them with the early frosts they would complain. I thought they were reasonable B.M at T&M but O.H. blew when I told him the tight @rse.
