Hello all, I'm sure you agree that it has been a very welcome change in the weather for us all, this has enabled me to get back onto the soil to get things going, I have added my latest update of my progress to my website which I hope you enjoy, it was nice to hear about the National Trust releasing some land to help provide some much needed Allotments, have a good week regards Steve. www.myallotments.com

Thanks for the tips Steve I am growing leeks for the first time ever they have only just germinated, do I prick them out seperately to grow on before planting out? I noticed this week my chives growing as well Im thinking of lifting a clump and putting them in a pot near my kitchen door as they are getting to be a bit like mint (spreading allover).

Steve, your preaching to the covered regarding hens, they are wonderful aren't they! Let me know how it goes when you increase your flock, I would quite like to go from 4 to 8 but I'm a bit weary of upsetting the pecking order. How much space do you think they need per hen? You calender is great! I'm printing a couple of copy's off I love the childrens artwork too.

Hi maggyd, with your Leeks I would prick them out into cell trays to grow on before planting them out when they are about pencil thickness usually in June using the method shown in my Leek Video on my website, regards Steve.

Hi emseypop, I will definitely keep you informed as to how the increase in flock goes, you do need to be careful when introducing new hens to a flock as you rightly say they will need to sort out the new pecking order, the farmer that supplies me with the hens has advised that I keep them apart for a few days so that they can see each other through the wire fence/run then allow them to mix keeping a watchful eye on them, if any start to fight too much then he said keep those away from the majority for a few more days and try again, they will eventually settle down, regards Steve.

Plotty I have just found this thread. There's so much info on it, thanks a lot. I wish I'd reead it before I sowed my parsnip but if they don't then I'll be chitting on the bathroom window like you did.
