Yes its January, its been minus something most nights last week. I check the pots in the conservatory and find green fly on the crocuses and the pansy seedlings I have sprayed them with some anti green fly stuff which I found in the garage and will keep a close eye on them next week. I expect that I will find some caterpillars next

Have you brought anything in from a Garden Centre? you can easily bring them in without seeing them even a bunch of cut flowers can have eggs on them! its as well you saw them before they did too much damage they love young tender shoots dont they.

I always use Rose Clear Systemic When sprayed on plants it is taken into the system and when the greenfly munch away they are taking it into their system which kills them. Maybe Organic gardeners wont agree I found this way of ridding the blighters! Bennets--catch them before they multipy and especially in the Greenhouse where it is warmer-- PS--Dont forget to check the compost in containers for those blighters--Vine Weevil--they eat the roots of plants especially Fuschia-They look like this-- The Adults look like this--

I usually squash them, blow them off the plants with a jet of water or rely on predators, but then Ive never come across them in this season, water is out, predators are asleep or dead, organically theres only the squash method left, if you dont want to squash, you must spray. Rotten luck to get them this early though.

Its not heated as such, though as it is south facing and attached to the house it does warm up to some extent . I will buy some pestistides though I need to be carefull about over watering things incase there is another cold snap.

I've got a mental picture of green fly hovering around in Cossack hats and parkas ;D Hope you can banish them for good.

If soe plants have got an infestation of Greenfly-try to keep them isolated from your 'clean' plants, it is surprising how they go from one plant to another!!
