Following on from Benetts Runner Bean thread about Trench composting I found this

You can also use it in the garden - just dig a hole and fill it with your kitchen waste, to enrich the soil.
Sounds a good idea to me,especially if you have sandy soil as I do. But i think it will help all soils in the long run.
