Pottering about in the garden yesterday, I had a good look at my Passion flower. I've tried cuttings from Petals garden, twice they just disappeared in my garden, the third time I bought them on a bit in the GH then planted them around an obelisk. They've done really well buy they don't look quite right on the obelisk, its a bit naked. Should I have pinched them out do you think? When is the best time to do this? Maybe they need a companion? Any ideas?

Why not trim down a bit Em that way it will make new side shoots! I wouldnt do it just yet though as the frost will probably attack it anyway I trim mine in October and again tidy it up in the spring. I planted a Clematis to grow with mine it already is growing on the other side of a Wisteria, the Clem hasnt produced much growth though as it is in the shade. Where have you got your passion flower?

Its in full sun Maggie. It didn't flower last year but I think i was late putting it in really (blame the weather) A clem might be nice, I'll see what turns up. I'm looking forward to getting to the boot sales and seeing the plant stalls.

They do take a couple of years to flower I think! I transplanted about four that were seedlings and they didnt flower last year for me but the one I gave my D.I.L. did but the ones I gave away to family were the stronger ones I just planted round my garden the left overs! I cant bear to waste seedlings Im hopeless.

I grew our passion flowers from seed, I ended up with two healthy plants. They took a while to get going, one grows up the wall over some ivy and the other one grows all over our gazebo. They are BOTH flowering atm - they both took a while, about a couple of seasons, to get established but now they're growing like fury. The fruits are still hanging all over them, like Christmas decorations.

I love to see the fruits hanging as well but this year for some reason they all dropped! Im sure that is why Teddy had a dicky tummy a few times, I grew mine from seed I squashed one of the fruits and put them on the top of a 4" pot with a sharp sand and compost mix, I forgot Id done it I was supprised when I saw them it was full they had all germinated.

Wow what a lovely surprise Maggy! I think the fruits have a very sweet sickly smell when they're trodden on don't they? I think it's them anyway, or there's something else up our garden that's got a very odd aroma.
