I've only had chicken eggs but wonder do duck eggs, pheasant eggs or those of other species have their own particular flavour or is an egg and egg?

Definitely a different flavour...duck eggs are an acquired taste I think but they are really good for baking. I've tried pheasant's and quail's eggs but couldn't find much to shout about with them actually. Fresh chickens eggs are delicious though, much much nicer than shop bought ones

Thanks 4P. Thinkin' about it now I guess they would all have a different taste. We have many Ring-neck Doves as pets and we try to control their population by taking their eggs out. We either give them to the Blue Jay or Grackle birds we have (who in nature do raid nests of other birds) or we give them to the Sugar Gliders (more pets). We did not have dove eggs for the SGs so I opened a chicken egg for them and they would not touch it. They must not have liked the taste.

My sister got a few young chickens in October. When are they likely to start laying, does anyone know?

How young are they? I would hazard a guess that they'll start laying sometime in early Spring. It seems that about March time any chickens I've had lay like there's no tomorrow, then they'll ease off a bit to a steady 'flow'. What kind are they FC?

They were quite young I think, my other sister keeps chickens and they were some of her babies. I would guess about 2 months old in Oct but I will find out. I have no idea what kind they are either, will post again when I have more info. Thanks Mrs B.
