I don't like citrus peel...my sister Pat makes the yuletide puddings for the family and always leaves out the peel in mine.... I wouldn't mind having a go at making ours this year...there are some good recipes on-line and I have a couple of Delia cookbooks....

I used to make one every year....no one but me likes them really.....in those days I used to make my own mincemeat and all the other stuff associated with Christmas...it was much more fun then too....we used to make our own cards too......a home made Christmas is more meaningful I think anyway...

I shudder at the thought of homemade Christmas puddings, my nan has been known to make them in old stockings, yuk.

Nor have I. That's maybe why I hate it! I don't have time though...I make mince pies for Santa and that's about it now.

I always make a Christmas cake and a Christmas pudding There is a lovely recipe for Christmas pudding in the December issue of the Good Food magazine - think I will try it I use Delia's recipe for the cake with a couple of additions When the boys were small I would ask if they wanted custard, cream or ice cream with their christmas pudding and they would say "yes please" ;D

When I'm not working on December 25th I always have my Dad over for the yuletide feast. He can put away half a pudding with my OH...and they always have cream and custard too..

I can highy recommend Aldi's Holly Lane Festive Connoisseur Christmas pudding! We've had it for the past 3 years running ;D It's not too rich, with big chunks of nuts and big pieces of cherry...delish!

Ive still got a big one (shop bought) in the cupboard!! do you think it will be alrigth? mind you O.H. wont eat it or Christmas cake that is why I have stopped making it I buy my cake from M&S but I do feel useless but if you end up throwing half of it out its a waste of time.

I used to make the Christmas Pudding and hubby the cake, although I would always marzipan & ice the cake. For the last couple of years we have bought both. Duchy Christmas puds and the cake has to be with Royal Icing not fondant (I think last year it was from Waitrose) and there aren't that many shops who sell them.
Mince pies, we have made our own mincemeat in the past using a victorian recipe which actually uses mince meat (lamb I think it is). HFW's of course - no surprise there. You cannot taste the meat, the pies are just not over sweet and sickly!

We've still got an Asda's Smart Price one from last Christmas and we've got until April 2009 to do something with that! ;D They're tasty too. I should think yours'll be fine too Maggy, isn't there a date on it somewhere?

I nearly always get a small individual, C. Pudding for my Christmas from a friend, as she knows I'm the only one who likes them in our family. It's virtually the same with 'proper' Christmas Cake, though I don't like too many cherries.

My mum usually makes our Christmas pudding but she's going away this year so hasn't bothered. So I've ordered one from LP's school because they are highly recommended by friends. Obviously I can't report yet

Sounds good to me! Oh I just rechecked the date on this Asda pud and it's June 2009 - that means from the time I bought it to its use by date is about 18-19 months, can't be bad.
