I like Heucheras and want to grow them in pots but past efforts have failed. Why?

I've always failed too Mick, in pots or in the garden - I think the slugs get mine and that weakens them. They're lovely plants but having failed miserably on a couple of occasions I don't buy them any more. I'm not sure if they're tasty to anything else, that could be the problem too. They like it moist, don't they?

I have never grown them in pots, except by accident. I mean I have had one and it's not been planted out for a while. Like Mrs B said, they do like it moist and I expect, well drained, like the saying goes!

I always grow mine in pots because they are a good alert to Vine Weevil - they are particularly keen on heucheras apparently. I have more success with the red hucheras rather than the yellowy ones - I couldn't say why though

I like Heucheras and want to grow them in pots but past efforts have failed. Why? I've tried and failed too Mick, I think because the roots got too hot in summer. Did you use terracotta pots and a soil based compost? From memory I did and put them in the sunniest spot. Wrong?

Prue has grown them in pots with Verbena bonariensis all around her garden this year, and they have done really well and look lovely. They would probably not like it in very hot spots, Mick....
