I generally watch HFW with a sort of horrified fascination. I know that we need to know where our food comes from, and I am not a vegetarian...but I am a bit girlie when it comes to throwing live lobsters into boiling water or slaughtering beasts for the pot. At least he's an advocate for ethical farming and supporting our local farmers, whilst I buy our meat and poultry mostly from an 'organic' farm shop, free range and local...I don't necessarily want to see the animal killed.

I'm sure I've seen this series before. He did a River Cottage Spring earlier in the year The witch. Teh same people appeared in that as well and they are just following on from his other River Cottage series. I watched it on Saturday and really enjoyed it. Were there three episodes in this batch Mick? I saw the first but missed the next one? Or two? The marshmallows looked good ;D I heard the warning about mating animals but did they give one about the slaughtering of the chickens? I didn't have a problem with either scene but thought it strange that more emphasis was on what happens naturally than on what happened with the chickens (won't go into detail)

So, it's on BBC2 on fridays? I love River Cottage. My favourite episodes are when he enters the village fruit and vegetable competition and the one where they have a stinging nettle eating competition ;D

It's on channel 4. That was the last one of the series with the bonfire party but there will be a new series next year. They normally repeat them at some stage. I like the characters from his early series - hasn't he come a long way from the original River Cottage? He does care about the environment and his animals. Perhaps one day I will get to River Cottage for a meal? (Letter to Santa methinks! - or a great big hint to hubby!). I am waiting for his next handbook (already ordered) which is on bread making. My niece went to his shop in Axminster and bought one or two goodies - and he was in there with his son doing his shopping.
