I did this in the slow cooker yesterday , but confess I did cheat and use a packet sauce mix (hangs head in shame!). It was delicious! ;D (So I am forgiven) I put the sausages in (you can pre-grill them but as they were in there all day I didn't bother), added a couple of roughly chopped onions, two packets of Colmans Sausage Casserole Mix and a pint or so of water (really as instructions on packet). When I got home from work I added some button mushrooms. I served it with jacket potatoes. Hubby tried the sauce when away camping and said how nice it was. It is tomato based and quite sweet, just the thing on an autumnal night!

A lot of the ready made sauces are fantastic - the sausage casserole sounds wonderful Myrtle. I like doing casseroles as they're in the oven for an hour or so which gives you all that time to get on with other things, and all the time in there they're getting tastier and tastier. Another lovely one for sausages is Homepride's Barbecue Sauce, the two complement each other perfectly.

That sauce mix is my girls favourite! When they both started cooking for boyfriends and that sort of thing they used to make sausage casseroles regularly. I was disgusted with them for being so lazy and not making the sauce themselves (bit of a puritan, she was...) so they made it for me one day without telling me they were cheating.....and it was delicious! Sadly, being married to the fussiest vegetarian on the planet , I don't make it but smallest and I occasionally dream of it longingly.....sigh...

I love the thought of the saintly expression - does he detect it's Quorn or did you tell him? Do you think he may have been none the wiser and enjoyed them if he didn't know?

Myrtle I did this in the week. I used butchers sausages, that I know don't have a lot of fat. I didn't bother pre cooking just chucked it all in and it was lovely. The whole family liked it and enjoyed ;D If I used the sausages you buy at the supermarket, I think I would pre-cook to remove a lot of the fat, but it was really tasty. ;D

We do have some homemade ones in the freezer, will try those next time. That's a good idea to pre-cook if you know they have a lot of fat in them.
