Mick,we freeze and preserve a lot of veggies. We also eat them while in season. We give a lot away also...we have never sold a veggie from our garden. We get great joy from watching it grow and taking care of it. The witch,we don't own a farm.Whats considered a farm here would be a couple hundred acres or bigger. Our garden area is only about 1 acre in size...looks a lot bigger than it is.

I have nothing like an acre but in UK terms I have a big garden. I manage to give some away too. Very satisfying (I don't just grow cacti). I like the sound of yellow pear tomatoes.
The last 2 summers here have been dreadful. Hopeless for peppers. Tomatoes OK until we got blight.
Still picking spinach, french beans and lettuce.

What sort of soil have you got, bc? It's obviously really fertile but it looks quite dry and lumpy in the photos. You must have to give it loads of fertiliser to grow that lot!

4pygmies,the soil is a sand and clay mix...the clay in the soil is what makes it look lumpy. The soil is very rich and takes very little fertilizer. We do how ever use 5-10-10 fertilizer on corn and potatoes. The garden gets new dirt about ever 5 years due to flooding...thats what makes it so rich.
