We haven't used wild garlic at this time of the year, normally it is a spring plant and we use it with the young nettles.
Nettle tops would be the first three-four leaves, again at this time of year they could be past it and stringy, also, don't use if they are flowering. Nettles do have a second flush of growth though (sorry 4pygmies!) and the new growth can be used.
Good source of vitamins and tasty!

Hmmm.......I have a fine crop of young nettles atm, I was only swearing at them last night! I am trying to keep an open mind, dear Myrtle, but the only time I cooked with nettles the resulting dish was disgusting and completely flavourless........I wonder if I could tell OH that it's spinach......? Mind you, he doesn't like rice anyway....  Is anyone going to have a go at this? I'd love to know what you thought.....It does seem as if it should be rather nice, certainly that is the tastiest sounding recipe I've seen...cheers Myrtle, for posting it! (But I do worry slightly that the dogs might have piddled over the nettles.........) |
