A message from the midlands I am sorry to say that this damp wet summer has badly effected the Blackberry's this year. Walking along the local stream a lot of the berries have gone moldy already . Hope fully they will not be so badly effected in a more exposed area like a hedgerow on a hill. What is it like in other areas of the country? Stop press, They are now under water

Morning! Oh dear...............................I hope the water's gone down now although there is more wet stuff forecast isn't there.....? There are blackberries here but they are very small and uninviting althogh the thornless one in my garden is doing fairly well. There aren't any sloes about either around here.......it doesn't sound very promising for the birds over winter does it?

Blackberries here are late ripening, but are very plump and lush. Have high hopes of a weekend's picking from the hedgerows. btw don't forget to harvest them before Michaelmas. 'cos that's when the Devil casts his tail over the fruit
