WHAAT! Did you take that in your garden Paul? How did the snake get the fish? Is that an adder? Do they fish for fish? OMG that is really a fantastic photo - not so good for the poor old fish though!

Is that an Equisetum I spy? My favourite pond plant! I think they're beeeoootiful...... Now you've mastered putting pictures on the board, can I be really nosy and ask to see the rest of the pond please? Just want to add - I think you just won the prize for 'Best First Picture', Paul!

It was a bit concerned with me running around with my dressing gown on and aiming a flashing light from my camera at it and my wife jumping up and down shouting 'snake snake' and the dog barking franticly it decided it wasn't that hungry after all, spat out the now dead fish and jumped back into the pond where it still lives. Regards Paul. p.s. Neighbors haven't spoken to me since, what ever did they think?

They're only jealous - they want one. What kind of snake do you think it is?

Do you know what the snake was? We only have 2 native snakes I believe - grass snake and adder. I'm guessing that this is a grass snake.

RSPCA rang me after the picture was in our local paper and said it was a common grass snake and harmless. Plus points are that it means the pond is healthy (snakes don't like 'out of balance' environments. Unlike the fish it can move on) and at the cost of a frog or small fish it will keep rodents away. Natures balance I suppose. I'm O.K. with it. Better than channel 4 any day.

Even I'd run round in my dressing gown to get a pic like that! My kids love it.

I'm not surprised about the adders. There seem to be a lot in your part of the world.

poor little fish tho...
Amazing photo Paul...I hope that you were kitted out with correct safety equipment? crash helmet, goggles, gauntlets, leather apron and teflon pants. (Courtesy of RATBAGS inc)....you can never be too careful when dealing with snakes...do you speak Parseltongue?

Great picture of the Grass Snake, Paul. I remember my first one I saw as a kid. My Dad had run over it with his lawnmower in the garden at the Manor House and I had to bring it home, didn't I? In a jamjar would you believe, dead as a Dodo. My Mum was not pleased as it stank the place out! Well, I was only little!!
