What is full shade? I take it it's different to deep shade. Is full shade an area that gets no sunshine whatsoever but has natural daylight, as opposed to deep shade where the area gets no sunshine and is darker than daylight, under trees for example? I have bought three drainpipe flower pots which I'm going to attach to the kitchen drainpipe to pretty the area up a bit. This drainpipe gets no sunlight at all but is in full daylight so I take it Polyanthus ,Begonias, woodland bulbs etc will do OK there? I've never been quite sure what the definition of full shade is. I've always assumed that partial shade is an area that gets some sunshine during the day...

I often wondered about the definition of Shade. The witch has really 'put it in a nutshell' I can understand it better now. About a year ago I left a garden where I had no problems with shade because the North facing boundry had a fence with a footpath running down the side of it and any earth/soil pockets were filled with shade loving plants. The garden, I have now, is mainly Shady so I have been on the look out for plants suitable for these conditions. So The witch has helped me define which plants to look/buy for it. I think I could say it is mainly in Full Shade.

Wow, nearly all full shade? Sounds really green, woodlandy and mysterious! Lots of choice of flowers and shrubs though, and no drying out of the plants through blazing sunshine being on them all day. A lot of mine is in partial shade but being ever the optimist I have several solar lamps all over the place, as you do....luckily I have a courtyard which leads to the garden and it gets a lot of sun in the Summer, giving the lamps their sole purpose in life! Have you got any photos of your garden Biggles? Akin to full shade, what is indirect light? If the instructions are to put a plant in good but indirect light, to me that means that as long as it's in daylight it'll be OK but it should be kept away from sunshine? Another enigma to me.........

Half of my back garden is in shade at this time of year but I have a fuscia flowering and there is two rhoda,s acers and prunus growing, so I dont think it matters much but I guess you would call it partial shade.

That is the same as my 'shade' garden. Although where it recommends Partial shade I still have a climbing rose flowering its little socks off and the label said "Partial Shade/ Some Sun" and this Rose doesn't get any sun at all, So I think it is worth a try in these conditions because they can always be moved if need be.
