Quite right too...there's no substitute for common sense, in gardening as in so many things. People are out to make a fast buck out of you and to believe all the claims for all those wonderful plants, sprays, fertilisers is just daft. I stick to the varieties I've been growing for years generally and firmly believe that the old fashioned methods have stood the test of time because they work. I get so cross about the varying quantities in seed packets too - it's ridiculous, wasteful and expensive. I believe I may have whinged about the ridiculous cost of Cerinthe seeds on here from time to time - £3 plus for 15 seeds - and the seeds are so prolific and very easy to save, the whole thing is a rip off. That is repeated with many of the plants we grow - people would rather buy new seeds than save them.....

They sell Galtonia seeds at a similar sort of price. One plant will produce almost as many seedlings as a foxglove.

It's all about rip off Britain, isn't it? Yesterday at the G/C, we had 3 bottles of Diet Coke, one juice drink for Stephen and a cake each in the restaurant. The bill came to about £13!!! The cokes were £1.79 each, yet in the vending machines by the exit, they were 90p. Craig says they are 80p at his school, which is why we get packs of them from the supermarket, so much cheaper.

Even worse to my mind is the practice of selling seeds which have such a short life span. For example Salix seeds live only about a month. Unless they germinate within that time then they are dead!. There are a lot of other examples of seeds being sold which will never germinate!
