LOL - I wonder if C3D would know which animal it's come from? I reckon it might be extraterrestrial. Keith might be able to help you better - he has more experience in that area.

Is it definitely tooth and not claw? You could send it, registered post, to someone at the Natural History Museum. We (well Craig really) found a few fossils in our garden at Oakham and we had one ammonite aged over 220m years old. We took them to the Dinosaur museum on the Isle of Wight, while on holiday there, who were really helpful. I would hate to make a guess, but could be anything really, like your wild boar. Any stories of big cats in Lincoln? Was it in the garden or was it brought in with the top soil you had delivered? What was there, before your house was built, do you know? Let us know what you find out.

Well I've known a few wild bores and their teeth are usually nothing like that. Wow! It's definitely tusk-like, how fascinating! Are you going to send it off?

Why don't you email the pic to Leicester University's Palaeontology department? (or the Natural History Museum)

Very interesting The witch!
Could be a canine tooth perhaps?
Were there any other bones in the soil around it?

A neighbour suggested a Hound of the Baskervilles! Will you sleep tonight now, The witch? Craig thought Velociraptor, too. It could be zillions of years old or just maybe 10. She was there, when I starting typing!! Hope you sleep well, The witch!

it could be from.....The Beast of Lincolnshire....
alternatively...it could have been dropped out of a small boy's pocket when he was roaming the fields searching for creepy crawlies...before the house was built....I know that my lad used to always carry bits of string, fossils and marbles around in his pockets (along with half eaten chocolate bars, FLUFF, hanky, worms etc...yuk)

YIKES!!! My first impression is that it is the lower canine tooth (fang) of a boar. While I have been known to be a bore, I am not a boar-ologist. I'll ask around and try to get an answer for you.

I sent your photo to someone who is a farm animal vet and he thinks it is a boar's tooth. That's the US vote. ;D

It would be interesting to know how old it is wouldn't it? Yes it would Debbie - not sure that's possible though. You need to get hold of an Acme carbon dating kit - easy! ;D

Did you find out what it is? To me it looks a bit curved for a current preditors tooth ie dogs or cats.
