I'm off to Kew next week to talk to them about Stapeliads again.
Kew came in for a bit of a bashing on my Cactus Forum yesterday and I have to say that they aren't doing too well. I have supplied a lot of material to them most of which has disappeared but I will persist. They acquired a very important cactus collection some years ago which looks to have disappeared as well and I shall see what has become of it.
It was lovely to have a warm evening to work in the greenhouse at last and I watered all the smaller pots then worked through my Stapeliad collection to see what they don't have - result 39 varieties!
I have supplied cuttings in the past but I think that they haven't been able to root them. I'm going to offer cuttings again but I shall also offer to root them up and grow on as plants for 2009.

Do you hold the national collection of Stapeliads Mick? Gosh no. I don't have anything like enough. I'm not even sure if there is a national collection. I shall ask.

There isn't. I could be tempted if there was enough time.
I took all the cuttings yesterday for Kew. They need to dry for about 10 days before I try to root them up.

I think you should have a go at establshing the National Collection, Mick. You are obviously much better than growing them than Kew - blimey, that's sooo impressive - why are they not successful though? I thought they were the best in the world at growing everything..... PS We're very proud of you on AF, you know Mick!

This evening I potted up some of the cuttings from Kew that had rooted and set Stapeliad cuttings for next year for Kew - about 40 of them.
