I stumbled across this site while googling the other day - I thought would be of interest to most of you. I've just placed an order for a solar pond oxygenator with them.

Mmm ... no one interested then? I am interested, especially in their hints and tips, but obviously not for purchasing. Your Solar Pond Oxygenator sounds like a neat idea, just like Solar Lights in the garden are really neat too!

Is there a money back guarantee if it doesn't work?

I've seen that site before but I think they are quite pricy, The witch. I prefer the CAT online shop, not a lot cheaper maybe, but more choice I think - and such a lovely place too, well worth a visit www2.cat.org.uk/shopping/

I bought it last year, as the finances were not in place for the pond pump and filter. I have them now, but no electrics in place yet. Been quoted a lot of money to do that, so has to wait. Anyway, back to the point. It only works during the day and depends on the strength of the sun, as to how well it works. Now, if it stored the energy and released it at night when the oxygenating plants are taking out the oxygen and fish are at risk, then it would be fine. If you don't have fish, don't think there is much point really, sorry.

I have also just found out, that Jennifer needs to go to hospital, for an operation. Thank G*d for health insurance, that's if they sanction it, that is.

Bigger than the operation you had to remove the alien millipede creature from your neck? Which little boys room? Stephens or Craigs?

There is a solar powered oxygenator that work at night Keith - it has a battery which is charged up during the day, so the pump can run for about 6 hours once the sun has gone down. www.watergardeningdirect.com/acatalog/Solar-Air-Pump-Plus.html

I bought it as an impulse buy at G/C, should have done my homework!

I'm pleased with mine, it is working well - the pond looks much better now, I'm pleased to say.

That's good, still think I made a mistake though. I only bought mine as I knew orfe can suffer on hot days/nights, but wrongly thought this one would store the charge as well for use at night. Hopefully we will be able to afford to get the electricity into the garden soon, so the pump and filter that we bought, will do the job instead.

Going to look into it, soon. My money hasn't come through yet, they said upto 4 weeks, well it's 3 weeks today, so hopefully going to look into it again. I thought about pricing up the bits myself and just get an electrician to wire it in. I know I could do that bit, but the law states it HAS to be a qualified electrician now! Also I have never drilled through a house wall before and am a bit nervous about that bit. The quote I was given before was madness and I still had to dig the trench and take up the slabs to route the armoured cable and make good afterwards!

You could do it Keith - my OH has done some small electrical jobs here, I don't think all work has to be done by a qualified electrician btw. www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=414855Drilling through a house wall must be done from the inside to the outside, and at an angle of about 45 degrees.

I will have a better read later, but the company that came to quote me said it had to be done by a qualified electrician as it was going to be near water. Drilling the hole, 45 degrees you say? I have only seen it done twice, once by a BT engineer in Oakham and once here by the Sky man and both times it was done straight. I know I will need to put a loop in the line outside, so if any rain falls on it, it will drip outside the house and not seep inside. I think I need to price up some armoured cable and the outdoor sockets. I don't mind electrics too much, as part of my course at college all those years ago, included safety and electrical work.

The electrician we've had here to do some work, certainly used a downward angle when drilling from inside to outside, so that rain wouldn't come through the hole - maybe not 45 degrees though. Thanks. I did think that would be the reason why, but if you put a loop in the cable, it would do the same thing, wouldn't it? Could do both and be doubly sure!!
