Does anyone remember the earlier series it was 'alledgedly or not' based on?
But it wasn't a comedy.

Jan Francis was in it, as was Bernard Hepton and the girl who later appered as an antique dealer in Only Fools (one episode). Oh and it wasn't set in France!

Wasn't a comedy Wasn't set in France Wasn't during the war either I suppose? You are not thinking of The Forsyte Saga are you? No! It was Secret Army - set in Belgium (Belgium Resistance), Bernard Hepton played the bar/restaurant owner, his wife was bed ridden, he had a long-time affair with one of the waitresses, etc! They reckon that because Allo Allo followed on and had such a large audience that they never had the recognition for their series which was a drama. www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A765083
