Just seen this on the web, what do you think? I am a little worried, but normally think, if you are not guilty of anything you have nothing to worry about, I don't drop litter and I always pick up Souki's poos while out!

Well I hate, despise and abhore anyone who drops litter etc and also those who don't pick up their dog's muck but IMO this is a pretty appalling misuse of the law isn't it? Whether you agree with the Government's Anti Terrorist laws or not, it's not right to use them to prosecute people who are NOT involved in terrorist offences. The senseless slaughter of innocent people by indiscriminate bombings hardly compares to dropping a bin bag of household rubbish in a side street or forgetting to bring a poop scoop for your doggy's doings.....what other laws can they bend to keep people on the straight and narrow? There are already more than enough people criminalised in this country because they have driven a few miles over a speed limit or some such minor transgression...they might be anti social activities but they're hardly evil - where will it all end?

That is the worry. Where will it all end? Free speech has already been ended. We have a government that is pushing for juryless trials and locking people up for 90 days without charge. Survellence cameras everywhere. Smokers have been banned from smoking in many open areas - bush shelters and car parks. We are moving slowly and firmly towards a police state. We have much to be worried about!

Sometimes I wonder what would happen if the majority of people voted at the next election by simply spoiling their ballot paper as a way of registering their disgust at the way this country is governed - I know it will never happen but it would be fascinating to see how the politicians dealt with it! (Vast numbers of people would disappear during the hours of darkness, bundled away by the secret police.... ;D)

Survellence cameras everywhere. Smokers have been banned from smoking in many open areas - bush shelters and car parks. We are moving slowly and firmly towards a police state. We have much to be worried about! What's a 'bush shelter' Sleepy? I agree with free speech being lost. I thought that was one of the things that was good about this country? On the other hand, if say Jennifer got raped or attacked, I would want those same cameras used to help find the culprit, wouldn't you? It's the use they are being put to, that is wrong, like what 4P said about speed cameras. Our nextdoor neighbour in Oakham is a prison officer, but he was annoyed at getting a fine for doing 48 in a 40mph zone. When I said it's normally 10% + 2, he said, so I get points on my licence and a fine, that has been clean for over 40 years, for the sake of 2 mph, that's stupid? The reason I put this on the environment thread is for the rubbish thing and if it does some good, I'm all for it, as long as it doesn't go too much further. We have a rubbish problem over the road at the school, where Craig used to go, and they are fencing the school off from the 'rubbished' hedge and installing cameras to see who is doing it. Trouble is, if you catch the ba**ards doing the deed, they will get off, as they will deem the cameras have affected their human rights or something like that. So annoying, isn't it?
