I have just been sent a new seed list from the Stapeliad society.
Who would like some?
They are mainly Stapeliads but also some Aloes, Avonias and species Pelargoniums.
I'll sort it all out for you.

Thank You Mick!
Do we follow the sowing instructions you gave us for cacti before? Are we all sowing together? or are we waiting until 4P's well enough to join in?

Yes, follow the instructions - they're not as complicated as they look but it is very important to use John Innes as ordinary peatbased or coir composts attract tiny flies which lay eggs and the resultant grubs eat the seedlings from the roots up. Sow at will I say. 4P has to wait until the weather warms up as she hasn't got a propagator but the longer growing season you can give them before winter, the better.

Can I start mine off in my warm bathroom if I keep a propagator lid on the trays Mick? Itstays a reasonably constant temperature ....
Oh and Mick, please what is that big cactus you're cuddling on the Who's who thread? I think that was the one you brought for Sweetleaf.

It's not a cactus, it's a succulent (said he being pedantic) - Euphorbia horrida.

I knew it was something or other horrida...what is the meaning of 'horrida' - does it mean something specific?

Ooo, that little Echeveria giant firecracker you sent me has thrown up a lovely new 2" shoot btw! It's called that because it's so spiky. Quite a common name in the cactus world. I have Ferocactus horridus which is seriously spiky and leaves E. horrida miles behind. The shoot is probably a flower spike - then you'll know why it's called Giant Mexican Firecracker..... I've just broken mine up so have lots of spares - I'll bring them to Kew (with lots of other plants) for those who want them.
