Do you know I was only thinking about finding something similar when Kate Humble went to Iceland (?) and showed the whales there and mentioned that the islanders were considering taking up whaling again. It's barbaric - the people hardly rely on it now do they?
I'll certainly add my vote - thank you 4P

Me again - I couldn't get a recipient but now that I know we have to target David Milliband I'll get a letter to him myself.

It really annoys us down here when the Japanese come into our back yard and kill our whales - all in the name of science - yeah right!
We had a pod of Orcas swim past our beaches at the weekend and whales are often seen off the coast and sometimes right in our harbours. Not for long though, if the Japanese have their way.

I might be a bit daft here, but why do the Japanese want to re-start whale hunting? They are a prospering nation and the minority who would have been hunters over the past few years must have found other things to do by now. Or am I being silly?

They sell off the whale meat to those in Japan who are willing to eat it. They stand to make a profit of more than UKL 100 million on this year's catch.

Mmm! It's always down to money isn't it? Whaling is very obvious because it's such a huge carcass, but I get infuriated by the over-fishing off the British coast. Some of the fish caught are much smaller than guidelines, and of course fishermen from other countries come into "our" waters too!

I think it is barbaric and wholly unnecessary. I was watching TV early this morning about it - a poll in Japan has found that as many as 70% of the Japanese don't agree with it either.....
I passionately believe in People Power. I have an Oxfam poster on my wall of a plaque somewhere in Africa which is supported by an Oxfam project which reads 'Many little things, done by many little people, will change the face of the World'. Everyone has a voice even if sometimes it doesn't seem so. The Internet is a wonderful thing ;D

Maybe if you just google IFAW it'll take you there.......... Karen, we seem to be always culling some poor creatures (for their own good apparently)...I don't know at what point in our evolution we decided that we know best about everything but since it's now well documented that we are now the biggest threat to the planet's survival................

Had the same problem as Sweetleaf but will have another go. Apparently the Japanese much prefer hamburgers to whaleburgers anyway. I can't believe they are calling it 'Research' and expect anyone to believe them. Ah - I've managed to do it.

As if us 'scientists' don't have a bad enough name already.... Governments all over the world lay the blame for everything at our door...why even the BBC starts every new item with 'Scientists have discovered/cloned/predicted doom etc'...there are many different branches of science in the world...blimey...I'm a medical scientist and in Pathology there are at least 5 different disciplines that I know of.... SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH!? money grabbing and a complete disregard for both popular opinion and ethics, all sanctioned by the Japanese government....it's criminal. I'm already signed up on another site at work.
