When I were a young lad I could do knitting and embroidery. My Dad was brilliant at knitting. I don't think I've got the patience for knitting or embroidery. I've always fancied having a go at tatting - but would almost certainly find that frustratingly slow too.

I used to do crochet. I made some fun soft toys for the children. Not done it for years now - not sure I could remember how

Lace making was a traditional craft in Bedfordshire once upon a time and quite a few of my ancestors were engaged in the trade. My Aunt has all the beautiful equipment and has done it for years. I have lots of her home made tablecloths etc but they are too fine to use everyday. I am really hoping she gives me all the bobbins and things some time as her only son, my cousin John, is very unlikely to want it ( and anyway he got my Grandad's complete Meccano kit - humph). The lace making kit is a thing of beauty in its own right - beaded bobbins and the like.

Tatting needles and shuttles can be similarly beautiful. I had a friend do it when I was in Southampton

Show off! My neighbour had a knitting machine and she used to make lots of jumpers for the children when they were small. I would love to have one, but I just haven't got the room at the moment

No The witch I just leave a long bit on the new and old thread and work it in on the next row or two then cut off the ends that way you dont have unsightly knots.

I can only knit small items and toys - I haven't the patience to knit jumpers and things! Last year I knitted Lily a topsy turvy dolly which she loves In the knitting booklet there was a Nativity scene- my DIL saw it and asked me to knit it for Lily and Tolly. I have knitted most of the bits and pieces - it is taking ages - but when I read through the pattern it is on a bout 'blocking' and things like that I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew- if I do get stuck would someone help me please?

WOW elsie - I wish I could help but I'm sure you're a much better knitter than me, and I haven't done any for years. Good luck though if you decide to do it, it looks amazing! The other good knitters on here are bound to be able to help.

Do you mean as you work up the knitting Maggy rather than work the ends into just one row? It depends on the pattern The witch I work by ear you might say!! if the wool is thick! probably a couple of row,s its hard to say when you havent done it for a bit! but thats the general idea just so it stays put! but it does look a lot neater if you can.
