Monty Don showed a red crab apple JUST like the one in Mum's hedge last night. Can anyone remember what it was called please? I must have been half asleep........ I shall HAVE to make some crab apple jelly out of them now I know they're the best type........I just hope my sister's horse hasn't nicked them...

There are a few red fruited Crab apples around. Evereste is one and Red Sentinel is another. However, one in a hedgerow is as likely to be a seed grown wilding as anything. Not that it matters, they all make good crab apple jelly.

My parents planted the hedge though OB! Mum can't remember the name.....I usually make crab apple jelly out of my John Downie crab apples but I shall use these pink ones this year - just to see how different it is. Thanks Emsey for remembering - and well done!
