I was amazed to observe a bird this afternoon that actually used traffic lights to get from one side of a dual carriageway to the other, flying low to the ground, It stopped at each of two sets of lights and flew across when the traffic stopped! It most resembled this bird but the one I saw was quite skinny, perhaps a juvenile? Since then I have been seeing them all over the place, although I have never seen them here before. www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/name/p/piedwagtail/index.asp

There are quite a lot of them here, they're lovely little birds aren't they? I love watching them bobbing their tails up and down. When we moved here we inherited a resident one who used to strut around the courtyard outside our kitchen door, but we have cats and he/she's gone off to pastures new - who can blame him?

I was very pleased to see it, it makes a change from the Magpies which seem to be proliferating out of control, around here, they outnumber the pigeons :

Where I work at dusk the shrubs are full of wagtails at dusk - many thousands of them. And they are grind their beaks. It's a wonderful sight as the bushes are alive with birds flying in and out - heads popping up and back again..

Sounds lovely I have a lot of interest in the birds I see on my walks these days, was I blind before then? I have a small collection of books now, and its fun identifying them as "I" discover them
