This just makes me want to cry it's so vile and pointless. It's not the first time I've heard about mindless cruelty to swans. Is it because they ARE protected I wonder, or whether they can be vicious when provoked that makes them a target. Whoever did this should be put up against the wall and shot. Nobody made them do it.

I reckon they were shot for the pot, to be picked up later, when things had settled down. Still wrong and if you mention a certain segment of our society, you will be labelled a racist, so I won't! Or did I, just then!

I saw this on our local news last night. It's utterly sick. Personally I think public execution is too good for the nasty, brain dead morons who did it. Senseless killing of innocents (of any creature - humans included) is inexcusable. As far as I'm concerned the culprits belong to a different species to me.

Reportedly 29 swans, 1 Heron and 1 Marsh Harrier were in the pit!!! Now I know some people I have met want to kill herons, due to their fish stealing habits, but I was particulary disgusted, when I heard of the Marsh Harrier, they have had a hard enough time as it is, with numbers going up and down. If they find out who is responsible, they should throw the book at them. Maybe even a set of encyclopedias!! Keith

Do you know this has been in my head all morning......I feel disgustingly violent about it. These cretins really should be put in the public stocks and have vile (hard) things thrown at them for HOURS.......I don't normally advocate violent punishment. But this sort of mindless cruelty needs to be stopped. How could someone do that?

There are many crimes where if the perpertrators were publicly humiliated and pain was inflicted they wouldn't do it again, or be deterred from doing it in the first place. Drop their trousers in the market place on a saturday afternoon, and beat them until they bleed!

The why is pretty obvious, the lake was built for shooting water fowl and the swans being protected were interfering with business, I bet the RSPB suspect the same as me.
I hope the sentences run consecutively!

I would make them fill in the Lake and put the owner and the people for killing the swans in also but the b------S have got to be found first. They are sick and want shooting themselves but that is too good for them, they need to be tortured slowly. Evil GETS.

Just been on the news. The land owners were going to go to trial, but the evidence, a bullet, has been 'lost' by Bedfordshire Police and as that is all the police had, the two owners have gone free. They are now going to sue for legal fees and they looked so innocent on the film. Nope didn't know anything about it, we love wildlife, that's why we bought the land!!! The RSPB and the Police are going to look into this! Don't hold your breath!!

Isn't it amazing that people go to jail for non-payment of council tax but real perpetrators of real crimes get off so lightly it's an insult to the rest of us.

It is amazing, isn't it, but are they innocent or not, we'ill never know, will we? How could what went on, not be known by the owners, doesn't make sense some how. Dando's 'killer' got out didn't he, makes you wonder what the police/courts are up to. That Newcastle footballer, Joey Barton, in for 6 months, got out in about 2, what's that all about? You can't say he got let off 2/3rd's of his sentence, on good behaviour, can you!? Here is the story in full about the swans. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/beds/bucks/herts/7541890.stm
