I just like owls, but the stroppy Little Owl is my fave. We have barn owls nesting near us and it always amazes me how loud their hoot is at night, especially when they are perched on our TV aerial!!! We don't often see them but boy can we hear them ;D They really are stunning birds.

I know what you mean, The witch. I grew up next to a farm and saw quite a few, very eerie aren't they? We probably had more Tawny Owls, though (obviously) and I can remember being told from a very early age, that the 'towit towoo' was in fact two birds. One made the towit, female and the ooooooo was the male. I remember as a youngster going out to find them. We had a field next to us with woods on at least two sides, so we had quite a few. It meant wading through, cows or sheep or race horses or donkeys to see them, but it was well worth it. I will have to stop or I am going to get upset, loved that house when I was a kid! Well maybe not the house, but the surroundings!

I know, I was only speaking to my eldest son last week and said we must go back to the village as I want to show him the various places I explored as a kid. I wonder if the badgers setts will still be there? Then the wood, that I 'learnt' so much in, like how to track foxes, find badgers, owls, nightingales, green woodpeckers that I haven't seen for ages, jays as well not seen for ages, let alone to see whether the farm is still there. Maybe I should check on Google Earth. I remember going to the farm as a young kid in the summer holidays and milking cows, feeding donkeys, horses, sheep. Oh I fed the cows as well!! I was also taught the 'dangers' as well, especially after a girl from the village died, when she fell under the wheels of a tractor. I wasn't there, but her dad was driving it at the time and she was in the cab with him. The whole village was there for the funeral. I want to go back to the heath, where I found 114 species of birds (in one afternoon) for an RSPB sponsored event once. Well a YOC one. Still the same! I will do it.

Headley in Surrey. This was my house. You can see the woods and the other house was owned by a well known radio presenter. Keith P.s. I suppose I should take both sons as well!!!
