Ooh - I wanna be the first to post on here!!!
My harbinger of Spring is the song of the blackbird. When I hear him I know Spring is really here and he really cheers me up. Has anyone heard him yet?

Loads of lovely trills going on down here too, need my RSPB video to identify them, I only know a few from experience. But isn't it great when you feel the stirrings of Spring coming.....it's definitely in the air, that peaty, earthy smell....and everything seems to be shooting around here....it's definitely getting lighter too, and the blue tits are going mad for my lardy surprises hung from the trees as per gardener's World Mag.

When I'm digging I love the way the blackbirds look at me as if to say "get out of the way, I want that lovely juicy worm you have just dug up" ;D I usually pick out any worms and grubs I see and throw them in the blackbirds direction too! We had one blackbird last year, which didn't understand that this nesting box wasn't meant for her ;D i33.photobucket.com/albums/d75/The witch-in-Norfolk/Lavender%20Cottage/Garden%20visitors/Blackbird1.jpg[/IMG] i33.photobucket.com/albums/d75/The witch-in-Norfolk/Lavender%20Cottage/Garden%20visitors/hatched.jpg[/IMG]

I just adore blackbirds - I think they are probably my fave garden birds, but it's a close-run thing with wrens!

The witch knows this picture when I was trying out Photobucket, but thought I would put it up anyway. I remember the first time my 5 year old saw one (can't remember how old he was) but he said it is not a black_bird but a brown bird!! I said, no it is a blackbird, just the female. The male is black!! Keith

Yesterday afternoon, I managed to get some time in the greenhouse planting loads of seeds. The local blackbird serenaded me all the while I was out there (well not me really, but you know what I mean), it was lovely and really cheered me up no end!
