We had another red admiral visit yesterday (there seem to be a lot of them about this year). The pictures aren't quite as good as the previous one though. FA x

fab fa, such detail, you must have a good camera, and real talent to get such good pics, we are lucky to have some really good photoghaphers on this board. I wish I were better, I blame the camera!

Not as good? I think they are, FA! Isn't it amazing the difference between the underside of the wings and the top? Both beautiful though. I never realised quite how long their antenna are either - amazing.

I love the pics FA especially the last, the close up of the butterfly`s face is wonderful and strangely birdlike.

I've been thinking about this! Those wings are gossamer thin aren't they? How amazing it is that the markings are so different underneath.......it intrigues me.... So I've been googling! This is fascinating... if anyone is interested. www.insects.org/class/patterns/index.html

Yes, at last! I think I saw some butterflies a while back but then the weather worsened. There were definitely bumble bees around yesterday though.
