It's well worth encouraging them into your garden, as they are aphid loving predators. Did know that you can buy adult ladybirds, larvae and ladybird attractant through the post? ;D Why not consider buying or making a ladybird house, which they can use for hibernation through the winter. i33.photobucket.com/albums/d75/The witch-in-Norfolk/Bits%20and%20bobs/GBDB34.jpg[/IMG]

I've always wondered whether they really work The witch. We've already got quite a few ladybirds in the garden - I think they've been taking advantage of today's sunshine, but I've been finding them on and off throughout winter.

My daughter bought me one for Christmas, but I didn't want to set it up until we have moved house, so perhaps I will be able to let you know if they do work in the not so distant future. ;D

No worries! It's one of those things that will go on a wish list and wait until someone gives me one. I'll be interested to hear what you think when yours is installed though.

The last 2 springs I have seen loads of them at my allotment yet the blackfly still managed to maul the broad beans.

Birds pick up worms, ladies on the other hand, do not, unless gardeners, and even then only the Vermiform type. OH brought home some slices of tree stump, I was looking for something to do with them, I think I may drill one and make a ladybird hotel. ;D Anyone know where lacewings reside? They are very welcome.

Ladies are called birds because of the worms they pick up!!! ;D
Mmmm I don't know where lacewings reside but we've got some logs we could drill holes into. Now I just need to know what size drill-bit and what type of wood ladybirds prefer ;D
