I'm sorry for the blurry photo, but has anyone idea what this huge brown caterpillar might grow into?

WOW!!!!! Really??? That would be BRILLIANT!!! Looking at your link it does appear to have those four dark marks at the front, but he doesn't seem nearly so pointed. I'm reluctant to move him - do you think he'd mind posing for another photo? I've had another look at my photo and he does look a bit pointed at the front end. I think I need to get him out and inspect his rear end!

He's been there for a while now - I keep checking up on him!
I'll be back in a mo, hopefully with a better photo!

No I don't think that's him Sleepy - he looks paler than that. Are these any better?

He/she's one gorgeous beastie! But in all the links above aren't the markings circular rather than triangular ? In all the links it looks like there are eyes on the 'bum' but the pattern's triangular on your one Plocket. I don't think it can be one of those......

I imagine your chooks would have munched him if they had the chance Mrs B! I don't think it's the ones Sleepy listed either, unfortunately. My book is so rubbish at caterpillars too - it's rather frustrating. I keep hoping The witch will see this too because she's so good at insects!

I know the link The witch's posted before to identify caterpillars - it's www.whatsthiscaterpillar.co.uk/ Sorry I had to type it out, I've yet to master posting links! I found it on 'Insects' in this section, on the 'What' will this grow up to be' topic.

Ooooo I think you might have IDd it The witch - it's very like that Double Square spot round turn and two hitches wajamcallit Moth.

I can't match him up exactly with anything on the plates - the nearest matches I've found make him either a Red Underwing, a Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing, a Cabbage Moth or an Old Lady!
