I could do with some advice on Crate training I have bought one on E.bay it hasnt come yet ,but I have been forced to buy one as Teddy was going wild I think ! when we left him for an hour the other day he must have been trying to jump up onto the windowsill as he had managed to beak the chain on my vertical blinds and knock a plate off its stand!! I could hear him scratching the door and wineing when I got our of the car at the top of the drive. So sadly he will have to be crated when we go out for his own safety as well as the preservation of my home.

I saw a dog like that on that strange woman's dog behaviour programme on Channel 4 once - it was basically all about the dog feeling abandoned and getting stressed that he was on his own. I think she managed to train it to calm down by gradually getting it used to being left alone while the owner skulked about in another room.....Teddy is still very young though isn't he? An hour is hardly any time to leave a dog. You have to make the crate his space, somewhere he can't do any damage where you could accustom him to being left for gradually lengthening periods with lots of rewards for when he behaves, somewhere he doesn't feel he's being punished. I'm sure you've tried all this - put one of your bras in his crate with his favourite toys, chews etc? ;D It's very difficult when a dog is really tricky to leave. I hope you can get him feeling better about it - you can't be trapped in your home by your dog!

A lady on our road has two collies that get left in crates whilst she & her OH are out. They swear by them, but have used them since the dogs were puppies. I'd talk to the vet about it maggyd...altho 4P gives sound advice. ;D

They always say, don't give a dog an old slipper, as it can't differentiate between an old one and a new one. Have you tried D.A.P. at all Maggy? Due to Souki's noise and stranger phobia, we use one all the time and it certainly helps. www.pet-supermarket.co.uk/erol.html#7228X37046I note I rant and rave about this product, after our vet mentioned it, but without it, Souki wouldn't survive fireworks each year. Hi everyone and Thanks for your good advice I know you were jocking about the bra 4ps anyway I havent a decent one left Im thinking nobody woud notice if I went without Anyway it hasnt come yet it should be here to-morrow Im going to have to put him in it on Sunday as were going to a Christmas lunch !! it probably is too soon but he is going to go mad anyway !! I could try giving him a tranquillizer but we will see they didnt work for the firewoks so they probably wont work. I have a feeling he was in one before we got him as he was 4 months and the breeder didnt have the pups running round they were all in cages.

Yes and I asked Jennifer at the time, if that was good for her or not? Must admit on one programme, at least, she did wear one, someone must have said something about their client! ;D Keith

Maggie, a suggestion for when you go out - put the radio on and don't make any fuss of the dog either when you go out or when you come in.
There's a very good website about this.
I'll look it up and give you the link.

But I suppose you know your OH better than we do!!! Streuth! Some of you chaps (and your OHs) live far more adventurous lives than us bachelors!!!

Thanks Mick thats a good idea ;D and I try not to take any notice when I come in mind its so hard he is crawling on his belly and running round me , if we hadnt just got him his pets passport to go abroad next year I would be seriously looking for another little friend for him but its too late now it takes 6 months from the clear blood result before we can come back into the country with him so its too late now!! maybe next year.

Gerroff!! my thread you pervs ;D this is about DOGS not t...!!! I want some serious discussion on here. Sorry maggy. I suppose some idiot might call Charlie a bit of an old dog, I know I wouldn't. I have never used a crate, so can't help you on that point, but have found the info below, hope it helps. www.rspca-westhatch.co.uk/SeparationAnxiety.htmKeith

Thanks Keith that was very helpful ;D he unfortunately does show some of the symptoms of separation anxiety although he didn't break the blinds intentionally, and only chews my bra,s and socks when he is playing, but he does follow me around mostly so I will have to leave him more often for his own good.

Well! all that worry and he was fine ;D I filled one of these Kong balls with chicken and buiscuit ,mind I dont think he got the hang of that untill I came home and then he enjoyed knocking it about and getting a reward, but at least there was no damage and he was laid down on his bed when we came back.
So next time we leave him I can relax.
