How big would it be drbill? Would the wood need treating each year?
I would quite like the one they have at Berryfield - if I remember correctly one half is heated, I reckon I would be able to grow grapes in one that size. ;D

Well in order to have a greenhouse I'd need to buy some more land but as money is no object that shouldn't be a problem. I'd like a really lovely traditional Victorian looking greenhouse with a brick base and wooden frame. It would be in sections so one third could be unheated, another third could be heated and the third part would be an alpine house. What a lovely dream!!! ;D

That's interesting Plocket - I didn't realise alpines need different conditions - what do they need exactly?

Well the alpine house part would be for small clematis and other alpines that need protection from moisture more than the cold.

A large victorian style Alton greenhouse with deep beds heated by clay pipes , similar to the one Plocket describes with a potting shed annex at one end full of clay pots and a variety of composts, and very long benches. It would have automatic openers the full length of the roof and a watering and lighting system. It would be a heavy wooden construction, which would need treating every year, but Id have a man in! ;D It could have solar power too, and a rainwater tank under it. About the size of a football pitch, (well you did say money no object)

Wow that sounds wonderful Sweetleaf - I think I would like one just the same - she says thinking about melons, peaches, lemons and limes etc. etc. etc.

I dreamt once that I discovered a secret door under some wallpaper and inside it a Dr who -style space (bigger on the inside), a long dusty greenhouse with potting benches, and an easel at one end for plant study paintings..... I like to do botanical drawings, I must have dreamed the next step IMO!

I want one like Sweetleaf's too but I would like it painted in that lovely light jade/green colour please. Did she mention the row of matching cold frames all down one side? And the terracotta pammet path up the middle? And the impressive selection of old watering cans with the clay pots?

I'd have a a tropical greenhouse for exotics, an orangery for grapes and citrus....I'd like the heating to be run using solar/wind and water power. Actually...if money's no object...a biome would be just dandy! South facing with a lovely lush English wood behind it...in a natural valley. Failing this...a nice half brick one like at Berryflieds would do ;D

At the moment i would settle for an 8 x 10 greenhouse. I've only got a 6 x 8. But as money is no objection I'd have the same as all of you but somewhere there would be a red grape vine so I could make my own wine. <hic> ;D

Think of the watering you would have to do? No hang on it's a Biome isn't it!! In that wood, I would build a river, so I can go fishing and to divert some up to a complicated watering system, as and when it was needed! And yes as you state solar/wind power. Wake up Keith you are dreaming!! Must admit though Alan's at Barleywood was nice. I wonder how the new owner is doing there? Keith

At least 8 ft diameter. Yes it would need treating every year, but then I would be able to afford to get someone in to do it for me, wouldn't I
