These are SOME of our apples from this season. They are waiting sorting before storing for winter use. We have already filled all the apple boxes we had. We have also had to throw away over 60 pounds of damsons as they were getting very overripe and falling off the tree onto the paths. There must be at least a cwt in the Damson wood which we are not even going to attempt to pick. We have tried to give them away, but round here Damsons are as common a tree as Hawthorn. We have enough jam and puree to last us 2 years and the Freezers are just a little on the full side. Still a nice problem, better than having nothing!

Have you thought about a local supermarket and maybe make some money on the way? Or would that mean checks for quality etc?

Have you thought about a local supermarket and maybe make some money on the way? Or would that mean checks for quality etc? Keith Cider. Cider and applejuice. And domson gin. Lts of damson gin Then, when you have vast quantities of cider and damson gin you invite all the AutumnFruiters over for a long weekend of drunken debauchery. A camping weekend in that big garden of yours ;D

'Fraid you would have to suppply your own alcohol. I cannot drink the stuff. Anyway, to make 5 gallons of Damson wine, for example would take 10 kilos of fruit which is a drop in the Damson ocean. Damson gin takes a handful? As for Cider, these are the wrong kind of apples to make a decent cider, they are far too sweet. Cider apples are often ' spitter'. (Take one bite and spit it out) Modern health and safety regulations etc. make it impossible to donate fruit or veg to anywhere like schools or old people's homes etc. The blackbirds and fieldfares and the hens are going to have a very fruitful winter methinks!

They'd be OK for juicing though.

Alcohol!!!!!!!!!!! And juice has to be kept somewhere like in the freezer, which are already getting full. And we do have 3 freezers and no where else to put another. Actually Apple brandy is quite easy. You make apple wine as per normal, then put it in a plastic container with headroom and put it in the freezer. The water content freezes but the alcohol does not. The liquid left on top of the container is Apple brandy. Mind, if the Revenue folks find you doing it, they can remove your freezer as an illicit still!

They have such tunnel vision don't they? Always with a bottle of something boozy at the end.....I can't see what's wrong with vast quantities of apple crumble, apple suet pudding, apple muffins, apple fritters folllowed by crunchy apple fruit salad and cream myself........

Except of course that almost all of those contain Dairy products which are also off the menu for me. Actually I should have made it clear, that the apples in the picture are all 'keepers'. They will store in cool conditions until at least Christmas and possibly beyond. If they start to deteriorate then we will puree or juice when the Freezers are a little les full.

well all least you'll have some for apple bobbing and that horrible game where you cover an apple in syrup and hang it from a door frame and some poor blind folded sap has to try to take a bite from the apple without useing their hands.....or did my parents invent that game to torture me?
