Anybody got any suggestions as to why my cucumbers (in the PT) are growing short and stubby instead of long and thin?? Using the same type as last year (Burpless Super F1 I think) but although they are growing well and fruiting well the cuc's refuse to get any longer than about 8" before they need picking...just one of life's little mysteries I'd like to solve.....

I cant think unless its the lower night temps having an effect, its not like a proper summer is it?
My curcubits are struggling to produce fruit at all or even flower, in some cases.

Its years since we grew them but silly question are you giving them enough water? they are 99 percent water. But Im going to have a go again next year as I think the taste and smell of the shop bought ones aren the same as they used to be! they dont taste of cucumber

Mine taste lovely but they don't last long....I do water them profusely though. There are loads of babies coming along though so I'm not really complaining. Just wondering.....

I'm growing Burpless tasty green this year for the first time and they're getting to the right size 4P...My problem is that they don't seem to keep as well as the previous years' ones (Telegraph)
I think it's the cold.

They shouldnt need feeding twice a day Emsey, and its a bit late to pot it on, the season is almost over.

Hi 4P I didn't do very well with my cucumbers at all, I only had one plant and one cucumber on it. Here it is. ;D The skin was tough, but it tasted good. Forgot to say it was 8" long and 8" round.

I actually had to buy a cucumber this morning...a puny thing compared to ours.....mine have all gone over now and the plants are all brown. They've given us a fantastic crop though despite the slow start so I'm not complaining..
