Can I just ask a slightly rude sounding question?
Who's got their courgettes out?
Mine are falling out of their pots but it's soo chilly at the moment I just can't decide whether to plant them out or not.....they're too big for cloches, all my fleece is being used around the cold frame (sunflowers getting humungously tall in there - ground not weeded where they're going...). Eeh, I can't decide........

I havent yet but I will this week. Really have no choice. Mick said there is due to be a heat wave in the early part of June, so we will be watering for England!

More later in June - starting about the 7th. I sow my courgette seed direct and they are all in now.

I've just had a real good look at mine and they're really healthy looking despite being out in the cold and stuck in pots. I think I'll plant them this week - if I get a chance. I had a poor crop last year so they're going in a new spot with tons of goat s**t in it. Don't think I'll chance anything else for a while though.

Im planting mine in a two year old manure heap, along with Pumpkins and Butternuts, I have to make a trellis for those at the back. My courgettes are Trombonchino this year, just for a change, never grown them before. Im told they are rampant. ;D

You mean there's a courgette that isn't? (When looked after I mean....) My OH likes courgettes but won't eat marrows so I have to keep cuttig them. I do like courgette cake though

I only have one courgette plant, can't remember the variety (yellow) but that's been out for about 3 weeks, in a 20" pot...last time I looked I had FIVE baby courgettes on it! Mind you, my garden is very sheltered...

Mine are way behind yours then, I have planted out my babies now, and I hope they can cope out there on their own......

Courgette cake 4P? That sounds very interesting - is it easy to make? Sweet or savoury?

Courgette cake 4P? That sounds very interesting - is it easy to make? Sweet or savoury? I made a savoury bread and butter pudding once using grated courgettes.

Courgette cake is very similar in texture to banana cake - it tastes of cake , not courgette! I like it.....especially slathered with butter the day after cooking......

I'll look out the recipe if you like, Debbie. Although it's dead easy - just add grated courgettes to a banana loaf mix instead of Bananas (or both - if you're feeling adventurous - wonder what that's like...you could have twice as much butter on top then!)

Could you give me the recipe 4P, I'd love to have a go, and am ashamed to say have never made banana bread. Which is daft as me and the family love both!

Of course - I'll look it out tomorrow - smallest is waiting for a go on the pooter..............
hang on, just realised I'm on a school trip to Norwich Cathedral all day tomorrow. Smallest has informed me that I've got to pray (shock horror)........what do you think she thinks will happen if I don't?? Anyway, recipe the day after...remind me!

That's great, 4P, thanks! Praying - just close your eyes and think of the garden! Nobody'll know. And you'll look like you're in deep contemplation.

I might nod off if they pray for a long time.......how embarrassing for smallest...she's at a church school (all primary schools are church run round here) and she believes all they tell her implicitly at the moment. OH is a total atheist and I believe in the Earth Mother and the energy of life(not manically though!) so she's worried for our eternal souls........poor her. It's tough being brought up by heathens...
