My garden isn't really big enought to grow any fruit and veg at home, so what do people think about the box scheme's? At the moment I buy my fruit and veg from a small local green grocers, and I try to buy British where possible. I tried the box scheme, I had a mixed fruit and veg box once a fortnight. I had no choice over what went in it other than telling them what I didn't want. In the summer it was hard to keep things fresh and in the winter there never seemed to be enough 'greens'.

i know a few people who've tried the box scheme and nobody seems impressed, its the fact that you've no real choice thats seems to be the main problem, followed by cost. supporting your local green grocer must be a good thing but not knowing where your veg comes from is a worry for some people. you could try grilling you green grocer for info on where his stuff comes from and how fresh/organic it is, you may be surprised. The farmers market sounds good, is it regular? Could you get all your veggies from there. It would be cheaper to catch the Lottie bug, give it a grow you know you want to!

Farmers market is about once a month. I do use a local green grocer for my weekly fruit and veg. Quite a lot of what they sell is local, the price ticket says where the product has come from and if I have a choice I choose British over anything else.

My main moto around fruit, veg, meat and bread is 'dont buy from a supermarket unless there is no option'. I prefere to support local business rather than multimillion companies such as main supermarkets. I obviously do have to do some shopping in supermarkets but only minimal.

i lave a bargain but i heard someone say on TV not long ago that we'd soon be living in tesco land and not england and i think they are right! I try to get my fruit and veg and meat locally, but i do get my potatoes delivered with the supermarket stuff as i dont drive and they're soooo heavy. can't wait to unearth my own in a few weeks. how are you anyway no idea, i see from reading some old posts your about to hear the patter or tiny feet, how exciting!

I tried one a few years ago, before we moved here, and I was disappointed. Sometimes the veg wasn't up to scratch (in my opinion), I didn't always like the choice and found them very expensive. I prefer to go somewhere I can buy British and select my own food.
