This week's update of my continuing progress on my allotments also includes a visit to the Malvern Spring Gardening Show which was really good and enjoyable, thanks Steve. www.myallotments.com

Brilliant Steve You have inspired me yet again to further efforts. I would like to thank you too for giving me the phone number for the tree surgeons, they delivered me a huge pile of chippings over the weekend which will help me a lot with the construction of my paths. I am collecting materials for my fruit cages now, and could do with any construction tips you can pass on as I have never built one before. I know I saw an update somewhere where you were building one (or was it a brassica cage ) I cant find it though.

Hi Sweetleaf thanks for your comments, I'm glad that you enjoyed the update. Last year I had a go at making a fruit cage 30ft x 16ft but unfortunately it was badly damaged in this Winter's gales and I decided to take it down. The main thing that I did wrong with it's construction was not to have fitted extra braces or supports between the timbers. I have not done an update on it's construction I'm afraid as it was at the start of last year before I started my website, best of luck with yours though regards Steve.

Hi Karenwl, the wooden laths that I use for growing my Runner Beans up are offcuts from a local Sofa Manufacturer but you could use Roofing Laths which you can get from Builders yards or cheaper still would be by asking any roofing contractors for their offcuts, this wood is pressure treated and will last for a good few years, regards Steve.

Lovely again Steve. The Malvern Show looks pretty good - I saw the Chris Beardshaw garden on GW and would like to move in there now please!
